Honorees of the Marcus Garvey Community Service Award 2024

Three outstanding Jamaican community stalwarts were honored at the Annual Marcus Garvey Rootz Extravaganza, recently held at the Miramar Multi-Service Center in Miramar.

Community Service Honorees

L-R: Jabulani Tafari, Vice President of the Rootz Foundation and co-host of the annual event now celebrating 20th anniversary; Attorney Marlon Hill, honoree; Catherine Malcolm, honoree, entrepreneur/co-owner of established Jamaican franchise, Jerk Machine; Jamaica’s Consul General Oliver Mair; Peter Webley, publisher of the Caribbean Today, monthly publication; and Mrs. Jean Garvey, widow of late Marcus Garvey, Jr., son of the late civil rights leader and Jamaican National Hero. The annual cultural event also celebrated the 137th birthday anniversary of Marcus Mosiah Garvey.
